In October 1996, graduate translator Christian Alkemper established his business in Karlsruhe, located in the southwest of Germany near the French border. At first, his target market was the field of pro audio—an obvious specialization considering the fact that he had many years of hands-on experience in that area. His expertise covers the entire range from acoustic and electronic musical instruments to production systems (mixing consoles, monitoring systems, sound reinforcement, etc.) to broadcasting.
Since 2000, Christian Alkemper has also concentrated on the various fields of IT. From that time on, CAF has translated a large number of computer books into German that are aimed at expert-level users. Here, the main emphasis is on networking and IT security, programming languages such as Java or PHP, and databases (e.g. MySQL). Over the last few years, we have enjoyed successful cooperation with a number of technical publishing companies including Pearson Education, Carl Hanser, and Franzis. Another focus is the localization of software programs, i.e. the adaptation of software to the target-language market and user community.
On request, we also offer the translation of texts from other areas of technology with a main focus on manuals and the like. Examples of documents translated over the last decade include user guides for consumer electronics, brochures on air-conditioning systems, and ophthalmologic reference books (to name but a few).
Refer to the Services section of this site for details on the services we offer.
Christian Alkemper studied translation at the renowned Faculty of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies of the Mainz University at Germersheim and received a degree as Diplom-Übersetzer (graduate translator). He is a member of the BDÜ (Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators), an additional distinction and further proof of the high quality standards supported by his business.
